My initial impression of Mathematica Version 6.0.2 is a disappointment.

1) There is still no easy access to the list of 'standard packages' that
come with Mathematica. It quite difficult to find them. The 'Virtual Book'
that was posted on this group did have a list of these packages but the WRI
Virtual Book does not have them. (An indirect way to get links to standard
packages is to search *Package in the Documentation Center. But this gives a
lot of other stuff also.)

2) The worse new feature is that the palettes that come with Mathematica
will no longer remember their position and condition. If they are not where
you like them then each time you start up Mathematica you will either have
to live with it or adjust them anew. With 6.0 and 6.0.1 I was able to change
the preferences for the ColorScheme palette so it would remember its
condition. I can no longer do this and none of the other palettes remember
thier state either. (One improved feature is that the SpecialCharacters
palette will now directly paste instead of select and then paste.) If you
like to control where the palettes are stay with 6.0.1,

3) I was hoping that the Format/StyleSheet menu would put a check by the
current style sheet in use for a notebook but this still has not been fixed.

And aside from this we still don't have the ability to write Version 6 style
documentation.

I don't seem to be able to find the release notes. Besides the
cosmetic change of the documentation system, the only thing I see of
essence is some improvement of import/export. What about bug fixes?
It there a list of changes?

On the PLUS side, 6.0.2 gives me a 64-bit install on my Intel Mac, where 6
and 6.01 did not.

Typically WRI rolls out new versions/updates, even to Premier
subscribers, over a period of some days. This is, I presume, to avoid
overload on their servers and, on average, make the update experience
less annoying for users.

There is a subtle change in the way .csv files are imported at 6.02. It
created a temporary show stopper for one of my clients.

Put the following into a .csv file:

"hope"
1
2

At 6.01 (and earlier versions of Mathematica) the string was read in as
"hope". At 6.02 the quotes are included in the string - "\"hope\"".

I suspect this counts as a bug fix, since it is more consistent, but beware!

My too :-((( I was awaiting new version with the big hope, that the problem
with paclets could be solved in it. But it is not!!!

I have heared, that this problem occures on Czech version of Windows XP only.
When somebody tries to download any paclet data, it says, that there is
problem with Internet connectivity. For example:

In[1]:= ChemicalData["Caffeine"]

ChemicalData::dlfail: Internet download of data for ChemicalData \ failed.
Use Help > Internet Connectivity... to test or reconfigure \ internet
connectivity. >>

Out[1]= $Failed

But internet connectivity on that machine is realy OK and also tests in
Help/Internet connectivity are OK. I can test it, and already have tested it
with and without proxy on our network and it is always the same.

Does anybody have the same problem on other language versions of Windows XP?
Does anybody know any workaround?

I know, that paclet data are not so essential for pure mathematics, but as we
are highschool and have bought universal license of M6, we have many more
applications for Mathematica which are realy dependent on paclets.

None of the internet-based data services (AstronomicalData, ChemicalData
etc.) have never worked on my 64-bit XP (English). I have always assumed
that it's because of the 64-bit system, but I have not read any
information on the subject.

I had a different language-related problem with another paclet (A Wolfram
Education Group course).
In my case that was fixed just by selecting in the Mathematica menu "Edit"
the option "Preferences", then the Tab "Interface" and select language
"English", then close the Preferences window, restart Mathematica, and my
problem was fixed.

I have no idea it if can help you, I hope it does.

It doesn't help :-(. I had English there, so I tried to switch to Spanish,
restarted and selected English again and restarted and it is still not
working.

The chemical and astronomical data services seem to work just fine at my
machine, with 6.0.2 on an Intel iMac:

Check under Help -> Internet Connectivity if you have "Allow Mathematica to
access the Internet" checked. Then try the "Test Internet Connectivity".
