Dear Mathematica users,

the new Import[]/Export[] filter for Portabel Network Graphics
is finished.

It integrates seamless into Mathematica's Import[]/and Export[]
functions and PNG bitmaps can now be read and written.

Additional to the standard converters it allows the reading and
writing of bitmaps with an alpha-channel used for transparence
and the manipulation of PNG's with 16 bit bit-depth.

Almost all web browser support PNG images, and my OpenGL viewer
for Mathematica can use PNG images as textures. More
information about PNG's can be found at
http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/

more informations about the OpenGL viewer with useful examples
of textures on 3d surfaces can be found at
http://phong.informatik.uni-leipzig.de/~kuska/mathgl3dv3/

Until MathSource update it's items the packages for
MS-Windows and Unix (Linux, SGI) can be found at

http://phong.informatik.uni-leipzig.de/~kuska/mcpng.html

The package come with the full source code for the MathLink
converter and the small interface Mathematica code.

Many thanks to Paul Hinton from WRI that answer all my
bothering questions about Experimental`RegisterConverter[]

Enjoy the package
Jens
