Subject: residues

  Does anyone have some suggestions on how this problem should be done:

> u := x^3/(1-x^5): readlib(residue): residue(u,x=exp(2*PI*I/5));

                                       0
> residue(u,x=RootOf(1+x+x^2+x^3+x^4,x));

                                       0
> z := exp(2*Pi*I/5);

                                 z := exp(2/5 I Pi)
> limit(u*(x-z),x=z);

                                       0

November 28, 2004. With a big trepidation I tried this... Hurrah! Hurrah!
Three cheers and a tiger! I should not have any fears, the bug is intact!
Even a simpler example:

Maple 9.5.1> residue(1/(z-1), z= RootOf(z^2-2*z+1,z));
             0

Maple 9.5.1> residue(1/(z-1), z= evalf(RootOf(z^2-2*z+1,z)));
             residue(1/(z-1), z= convert(RootOf(z^2-2*z+1,z),radical));

             1
             1

Best wishes,

Vladimir Bondarenko
