avenue server execution

hi there, i apologize ahead of time as i'm new to esri tools.

i have documentation that refers to a set of avenue scripts that run
on a unix server in a continuous loop. they intereact with an esri
geodatabase in oracle.

can someone tell me the nature of the execution environment that we
are looking at to identify these scripts? are they stand alone or do
they have to be accompanied by an esri server or desktop product?

The execution environment for Avenue is Arcview version 3.x. I'm
afraid it died after that version of ArcView, and is no longer
supported in any shape or form.
