Hi,
i had some weird experiences with a freshly installed system and the ssh host keys. The system is a KVM VM, running SLES 11 SP2 64bit. I had to reinstall the system. So i choosed in yast "new installation" and wanted to reformat the old partitions. The whole installation ran fine, and the new system booted perfectly. But i had the identical host keys as before ! I installed again, choosed again "new installation" and reformatted the partitions - again the old host keys.
I was very astonished. Then i filled all sectors of the hd with zeros using dd, afterwards again reinstallation. And now i have new keys. So the "formatting" wasn't a real one. Is this behaviour (saving the old host keys) coming from openssh (version 5.1p1-41.51.1) or does it depend on SLES 11 ? Thanks for any answer.
Bernd
