On Tenebril's website it is claimed that by using anonymous proxies
from all over the world a surfer will be virtually anonymous to the
websites he visits. Problem with this product though, is that it isn't
using proxies from all over the world, but just 3 which are owned by
Tenebril: proxy1.tenebril.com, proxy2.tenebril.com and
proxy3.tenebril.com. As may be clear, this is a highly undesirable
situation since by directing all traffic through their own proxies
they are in the perfect position to profile the GhostSurf Pro users.
In addition, the option as shown and discussed on their website is
completely absent from GhostSurf Pro: it is stated that through the
so-called Anonymous Proxies screen lists can be downloaded from
proxies all over the world after which those can be selected the user
sees fit. I was quite surprised that this functionality is completely
missing from the (registered) copy I hold, and which is downloaded
from thjeir site.
Of course this matter was put forward to Tenebril, explaining the
problem in detail and accompanied by a screen print (by e-mail, since
this company doesn't seem to be listed in the phone directory). Except
a standard reply as to the nature of anon proxies, no relevant answer
has been received by me, even after several more e-mail pressing them
on the matter.
I cannot do anything else then come to the conclusion that this
product these days is "flawed by design", thus enabling them to
profile the users (their customers) of GhostSurf Pro.
Through this means I want to warn the community at large as to the
dangers involved in using this product, and I would advise everyone to
steer well away from it.
