domain naming for home test network

Hi all,
I am new to kerberos/LDAP etc. I have a small home network and want
to experiement with Kerberos and LDAP. I am thinking that since I do
not have an assigned domain name ending in .com, .net, etc that I can
call the domain anything I want. Is there any system that is usually
followed in this situation?
