The DICOM standard allows networks that are TCP/IP compatible. Both
IPv4 and IPv6 are supported by the standard.
It is up to the implementation that wants to claim conformance to
state which physical networks are supported; a wireless network
interface that support TCP/IP is an viable option.

Some implementations (modalities for examples) are sold as fixed
hardware and will state that their network connectivity is limited to
the build-in network interface.

Many software only implementations (DICOM viewers for example) are
sold as an application of often will state that their software is
indifferent to the physical medium over which TCP/IP executes.
