Hi all,
Can anybody plz tell me the difference between image patient orientation and Patient orientation tag of Dicom.
and in our dicom viewer , we have an option to burn media and view the burned image through our media viewer.
In the media viewer ,we are using image orientation tag as a indication for flip and rotate applied or not.

So my question is Which one we should use image patient Orientation tag or Patient orientation tag for the orientation.

Thanks in Advance.

It depends on the modality.

For cross-sectional imaging, the patient coordinate system relative
vectors in Image Orientation (Patient) are the most precise information,
and from them one can extract simple labels mathematically, so those
labels are not normally sent in Patient Orientation (since they would
be redundant).

For projection modalities, where the exact relationship to the patient
is not mathematically quantifiable but limited orientation is available
dependent on operator entry or assumptions about the geometry, the
labels in Patient Orientation are all that is available.

For one way to compute the labels from the vectors, see:

http://www.dclunie.com/medical-image-faq/html/part2.html#DICOMOrientation

In short, if Image Orientation (Patient) is present, use it, else use
Patient Orientation.

Thanks
thanks a lot Sir.I got my answer.

Sir I have one more question regarding scout line. We have implemented scout line in our dicom viewer.so as of now for testing purpose , we are comparing our scout line with the other dicom viewer availble in the market.
So my question is , Is there any other way to figure it out that scout line ,what we are displaying, are correct or not.

Again thanks in Advance.
