Why not UDP?

Hi,

Why don't we see DICOM applications sending throuh UDP ports ? is that
part of the standard ?

DICOM provides no support for reliable delivery and sequencing
of packets, and hence depends on TCP connections to handle this,
not connectionless UDP datagrams.

so if this is part of the standard, why did DICOM reserve some UDP
ports from IANA?

It is conventional to always assign both UDP and TCP ports, even
though only one is used.

Look at "http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers".
