About the Link between quality and productivity..
The installation of statistical process control and the reduction of
variability can increase productivity and lower cost without any
additional investment in equipment, workforce, or overhead. But efforts
to improve this process by other methods (such as Just-in-Time, lean
manufacturing) are likely to be completely ineffective until the basic
problem of excessive variability is solved.
