Saudi Arabia facing its demons
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Ben Salmane (MBS) said it was during the
Cold War and at the request of his Western allies that Saudi Arabia
undertook to spread Wahhabism.
"Originally, it was at the request of our allies that we invested in the
creation of Koranic schools, mosques and the spread of Wahhabism in the
Muslim world," he said.
Mohammed Ben Salmane explained that the purpose of the operation "was to
prevent the Soviet Union from establishing its influence in the Muslim
world" and therefore to block the advance of communism. "Our allies
demanded that we use our resources to accomplish this task," he said.
