Bank of America doesn't respect customers' privacy...
Because of invalid SSL certificates, I just discovered that Bank of America submits tracking information from every single page in their system to doubleclick.net. This really makes me upset because of the bad privacy tracking record doubleclick have. Is it even legal for a bank to share privileged banking information like... more »

online-tool: encode your email address with unicode to reduce harvesting
Here's a little online utility to encode email addresses, links or any text using unicode to something that's understandable by browsers but 'more' difficult to harvest by robots - thereby protecting your privacy. [link] It's not impossible for the harvesters to parse out the emails, but the... more »

Offshore Web Hosting | Dedicated Servers | Colocation
For maximum privacy, security, and peace-of-mind, you need to get your website and email services located on an offshore location, and what better place to put your website(s) than in Hong Kong, the Financial and Telecommunications Captial of Asia. No "big brother", no reporting to anyone. All anonyomous.... more »

Is it safe to use social securty number as intranet username? (long)
What do the experts here think of a policy of requiring an employee to log on to an intranet using a social security number as a username? My employer wants me to complete an online training course and they have set up a system where we can log onto their intranet individually, but they expect us to use our social security number as a username. I asked... more »

EFF Cries Foul Against Domain Name Registry Bill
[link] In a rather slick way of wording it, I'm surprised that the EFF has actually taken this stance to further protect individuals or companies from registering domain names with misleading, and even perhaps criminal, intent. I, for one, am glad to see the government taking a pro-active role in... more »

Microsoft's new product activation policy threat
Does anyone know what kind of information MS really sends back to Bill during product activations eg. for Outlook. It would appear that you have the choice of activating on the net or by phone verbally. However even if by phone you are required to give them some very long encrypted message (presumably mapped to your current h/w config... more »

current state of PGP being broken
...news:e$bpOOYvBHA.224@tkmsftngp07... ...Bill, did you ever see the movie ANTI-TRUST. I would think it would be incredibly tempting for someone in Bill's position to "filter" all traffic that he could control (via his spin offs and enticing free services--eg. email) with a list of select keywords (eg. patent; "new concept"..etc.) and... more »

Web anonymity & java
Why does this site consistently give me my IP, even when using proxies I know are anonymous? [link] Is it something to do with Java? If so how do I disable it? Regards.... Steve

MultiProxy software bad?
I downloaded multiproxy and was trying to play around with it to see how well it worked but when it was running no matter what I entered as a URL (or IP address) I was always taken to the site for PumaSoft. Is this some sort of jokeware?
