I bought a new serial to USB cable. the cable that you can use when
you don't have a serial port in your laptop (9 bins) port, however it
came without installation CD with a driver on it. i downloaded several
drivers, they all didn't work. the cable labeled as HL-340, that is
the only info i got about it. any advice on what drive to use or what
to do to use this cable?

In article <0a7b1237-17ae-4aae...@2g2000hsn.googlegroups.com>,

Even if you are not running Linux, this is of some value:

http://tiagovaz.wordpress.com/2008/01/04/using-a-hl-340-usb-serial-adapter-against-2623-linux-kernel/
Using a HL-340 USB Serial Adapter against 2.6.23 linux kernel
This device is:
idVendor 0x4348
idProduct 0x5523

Those 2 numbers are the USB device's unique ID that links it to the driver.
You'll need to search for a driver for those IDs for your operating system.
