Hi,
Got 2nd hand WangDAT 3200 drive a month or so back.
Poked about with it a bit to try to get it to be seen (already
posted 1ce about this, think thats OK now), and messed
about putting stuff on and reading it off again.
Then found out if you dont clean it every "8-10 hours of tape-
head motion", it'll break irrepairably. GREAT. Presumably
it hasn't got there yet or I'd know, but it must be close.
I also hear you can only use certain cleaning tapes with them,
and have to ask them which. Tried emailing them. No reply so far.
Can anyone tell me which cleaning tapes I can use?

<NB-I'm not a sysadmin or anything, just a hardware-junkie/ linux bod,
but I'm looking at setting up system as an Xhost next yr, so backup
would be even more important to me then>

Have a WangDat for use with the MicroVax. We use a Sony cleaning tape that
the vendor supplied "Sony DDS Cleaning Cassette" # DG-5CL. Insert, after a
moment it ejects itself. Wang recommends, per the manual, cleaning 8 -10
hours which approx weekly with a DDS Cleaning Cassette.

I have (really work has) a WangDAT 3200, and I have never heard
anything about it being ugly with cleaning. I had the drive working
for over 6 years cleaning it every-once-in-a-while (like every 3-4
months). This drive was on a Novell Netware 3.12 server, and did
backups every weekday. It has since died, acts like it is backing up,
then when you go to restore any of the data, the DAT is unreadable. I
used any-old DAT cleaner. I also heard that if you clean a DAT too
much it is not good for the head.

I guess I was not too much help, but atleast I had a WangDAT 3200 that
was not picky about cleaning.
