Vuescan 4000dpi on LS30

Am now able to scan at 4000dpi with my LS30 (a 2700dpi scanner) in
latest vuescan using custom in scan resolution.I can't do this with
Nikon scan. What benefits does this have over intapolating in
Photoshop. How does Ed make the LS30 do it??

There's absolutely no reason to do this. You could scan
at 8000 dpi if you wanted to, but VueScan is just doing
pixel replication in this case (the actual scan is being
done at 2700 dpi and VueScan is just doing crude pixel
replication to increase the resolution).

Being able to increase the resolution to more than the
optical resolution is just a side effect of the code I
added to allow scanning at non-integral divisors of the
optical resolution. It's not useful.

Which leaves the unasked question, what happens when a dpi value lower
than the optical resolution is chosen? Bi-linear, bi-cubic or ...?

It's approximately bi-linear.
