Vuescan auto-exposure question

Hello all,
I just purchased an Epson V500 for the purpose of scanning old Kodak disks
(yeah, I know, don't ask).
I've put 3 disks on the scanner, done a preview, set a crop window on _one_
of the images and now I have a pretty good exposure.
What do I do if I want to scan the whole area with _those_ exposure / WB
settings ?
If I enlarge the crop window, I lose the exposure (because of the black
center and white border). Using [Input][Lock Exposure] doesn't cut it.

How can I completely 'fix' the parameters while doing a whole window scan
?!?

Well, even fiddling with the [Lock exposure], [Lock film base], [Lock image
color], I still get color changes when I change the crop window.

But I have a bigger issue: above a certain image size, VueScan arbitrarily
resizes the file.
Example: a 2000x3000 pixels scans (as indicated at the bottom right after a
scan) gets me a file of the proper size.
A 2000x8000 pixel scans results in a 1000x4000 tif file.
A 2000x16000 pixel scan results in a 500x4000 tif file, all other parameters
being equal.

The memory available in [Prefs][Image memory] is 2Gb, which should cover it
nicely.
Obviously the [Output][Tif size reduction] is set to 1.
What the heck is going on ?!?

Yup, Ed confirmed that the iscan Epson driver he's relying on has some
memory limitation. Damn. I have to waste my time with a virtualized
version...
