When I use the copy function and pick my fax printer, the operation
succeeds alright but the background is always speckled at the recipient's
end. I've tried "best", "normal", and "quick". Makes no difference. Also
tryed scanning as a phot. Same thing.
I use Snappy Fax for my fax software, but I really don't think that is a
contributing factor since I can send other documents (not scanned ones) and
they do not have the speckles.
If I pick my regular printer as my copy target, the copy is clean. It's
only when I copy to the fax printer that the problem occurs.
I previously had a HP Scanjet 5470C (wish I still did) and I never had that
problem with it. The software with the old scanner was *much* better than
the Solution Center software.
Has anyone else experienced this and is there a cure for it?

Hi,

What mode were you scanning in - colour, greyscale or pure 1bit Black&White?

Scanning faxes as greyscale or colour can cause the background to scan light
grey instead of white and this grey background will then appear as speckles
when received. Another cure if you have to scan colour or greyscale can be
to reduce to contrast (may be labelled brightness or exposure) so any text
goes dark grey instead of black as this also makes the background whiter
but may give the text white speckles as a side effect.

Any documents created directly on the PC as faxes won't have the grey
background that causes the problem. It's caused by faxes being unable to
print more than pure black so have a dithering effect like old newspaper
print when they try to do greyscale and the speckles are it's best guess of
simulating the background's shade of light grey.
