I've never had a problem with refills, but mostly I just refill my own
cartridges (Canon printers, not Epsons). Especially useful for those
slightly older printers that Canon does not sell cartridges for
anymore (presumably same story for Epson).

I don't know, but it seems making broad generalizations is not the
sort of thing an engineer would do.

I gathered you were giving a tip, which was great.

I venture that the reply here was also useful, since you could take
the working chip from remanufactured cartridges to fix dud Epson
cartridges....

Thanks for the tip.

Well, his brain power is clearly insufficient for him to understand when
to use Capital Letters, or to spell correctly!

I'm sure there are actually cases where bad ink can screw up a printer,
but a good engineer should certainly know better than to make sweeping
generalisatons.

You still can't work the caps, can you? I'm probably older than you, and
I am a qualified engineer.

He isn't worth it. His bad advice here and other newsgroups is well understood.
I am a fully qualified electronics engineer and have been in IT and computers
for well over 30 years. I specialised in printers for some years and I can say
that I have never seen any printer damaged by third party or refilled
cartridges.
Those that say they have are either manufacturers of printers (and they would
wouldn't they?) or people who either lie or have pitiful technical skills.
I do not advocate nor do I criticise the use of third party inks. Some are good
and some not so. But they do not "damage" printers in my experience.
Frank Williams posts using a nom de plume and has used others in the past. He
is inclined to abuse at the earliest opportunity whenever anyone disagrees with
him and has the technical skills (as demonstrated by his bad advice) of a
rhesus.
A thoroughly unpleasant individual.

Indeed. I ended off with just an ironic short post, seeing the way the
wind was blowing.

(and I also have an Electrical & Electronics Engineering degree, with
post-grad degrees in remote sensing, remoter and remoter from
reality....)

I agree with you about the inks also, and it is clear from doing
searches on the newsgroup archives how useful 3rd party inks are.

Agreed!

Now let's get back to the wonderful constructive world of helping one
another fiddle with these monsters.

Gernot I couldn't agree more, I get twitchy when people post things that are
misleading; especially, when based on previous experience, I think there may be
a little bitterness or malice involved.
Keep up the good work.

Hear, hear!

Argument from authority: massive fail :-)
Now he can continue to argue in my killfile. I love gnus.
