I bought my first HP Color LaserJet printer (model 2550dn) a few years
ago and was absolutely delighted with its speed and quality. But after
about 18 months, it started having trouble picking the paper up out of
the primary tray. I could hear it "trying" as the gears and things
moved, then it would indicate "paper jam." I'd open it up, and there
was no jam, but it just couldn't start loading the sheet out of the
tray. I used the manual feed for a while as a work-around, but
eventually got frustrated with the hassle, and got a NEW HP 2605dn
printer. Identical experience -- great performance for about 12
months, but now it has suddenly stopped being able to feed a page out
of the tray.

So... is there some kind of roller cleaning or replacement I need to
do? I can't seem to find anything definitive online about this, but if
it's an (apparently) common problem, why isn't there an easy
maintenance kit HP sells? Okay, I guess they would rather have me go
buy a new printer, but I would rather not.

For the time being, where do I find out where to get the presumed
replacement parts I need for the 2605dn, and instructions on
installing?

Thanks!

The web site http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/
may help. It has feed/roller repair kits for some
models of printer.

I have been very happy with my Hp 2605DN. If you are not using HP paper
rated for use with your printer you might give some a try. Mine has been
giving great service so far. The purchase price was slightly less than a
set of toner so I am not sure I would hesitate over the purchase of a new
one.

I've got one of them and no problems so far although I'm still (just) on my
first toner cartridges.
Could it be you are using cheap paper which is shedding loads of paper
fibres onto the pickup roller?

Loads of HP pickup rollers on Ebay but none for the 2605. Maybe mailing one
of the sellers might get a result.

Alternatively I have used Platenclene from AF (Automation Facilities) which
I bought many years ago. I remember it worked a treat on whatever rubber
item it was I bought it for. Google brings up loads of suppliers.

Then there is the printer cleaning sheets which you feed through your
printer to clean the paper path. I've never tried them and I'd check
carefully that they are OK for laser printers.
