I have installed a Dell All-inOne 942 printer on a new Toshiba laptop with
Vista over USB.

When printing the job sits in the print queue for something like 5 minutes
and then the Dell Print monitor finally appears and the job starts to print.
When printing the page also takes a long time to print.

I have downloaded the Vista driver from the Dell website.

I have tried the same printer using a Dell Desktop with Vista and pages
print within seconds. I have tried several USB cables in case there was some
issue with USB 1 and 2.

Printing is fine when used as a stand alone printer.

I would be greatful for any insight into what may be happening.

THANK YOU in advance.

Robbie

Not sure, but make sure you have the correct driver loaded as the
default driver for your printer. This may be a conflict or even a bad
USB cable or connection. Try other USB devices and make sure they work
properly. I have ahd a LOT of trouble isolating USB issues a few times.
In those cases, it was the USB cable at fault. As soon as I replaced
it the problem was solved. I imagine some cables have poor grounding or
shielding or just poor intermittent connections.

Not saying that's the definite cause, but if you have a few cables
around, worth considering to test.

You might also try removing and reinstalling the driver. With USB
connections, usually you must load the drivers before plugging the
peripheral into a USB port, or the drivers will get corrupted or load
wrong components. Also, Dell printers are usually rebadged Lexmark, and
those drivers are often "wonky".
