Sincerely yours. Christophe
You probably have ink clogged in the printhead nozzles which are
internal on the Epsons. This is a common problem so save the info I'm
sending.
Here is a procedure recommended by Epson for stubborn clogs. I
have added the little trick of using Windex in the printhead as a
solvent...
This is worth saving as sooner or later, you will need it.
First, do the following:
Move the carriage assembly that holds the ink tanks to the center
and remove the ink tanks. Drip some windex (actually my cleaning
solution is best) into the ink ports that penetrate the tanks.
Reinstall the ink tanks and let set for 30 minutes and do the following
procedure as prescribed by Epson:
Head cleaning process for Epson:
If using the printer's cleaning buttons on the control panel does
not clear the print head. The printer's cleaning utility program
should be used which is a more intense method.
IMPORTANT! A head cleaning and nozzle check page must be
performed as a cycle so subsequent cleanings will advance to a
higher intensity cleaning cycle. This process ought to be
repeated until the nozzle check prints correctly. When the nozzle check
prints correctly the printer is ready to go. If you run more than
6 cleaning cycles and the nozzle check is still not printing
correctly, the ink cartridge may need replacement or the printer may require
service. First make sure your printer has fresh ink cartridges
then do the following in Windows:
1. Click Start - Printer - Settings in Windows 95/98
or open Control Panel - Printers in Windows 3.1
2. Click on your Stylus printer model
3. Click on Properties
4. Click on Utilities
5. Run Nozzle Check
Click here to see a nozzle check pattern...
http://www.netwares.com/nozcheck.gif
6. Check printout for missing black or color ink. If any lines
are missing, that indicates a clogged ink nozzle(s)
7. Click on Head Cleaning
8. Run Nozzle Check
9. Repeat head cleaning/nozzle check 3 times
10. If no improvement, repeat cleaning/nozzle check sequence up
to 6 times.
Depending on the severity of the blockage, after going through
this cycle up to 6 times (with fresh ink cartridges) some
improvement should be noticed, if not totally cleared. If
improvement is noticed, continue the cleaning/nozzle check
cycles until the blockage is cleared. Slight improvement may be
seen after each cycle. This could require many cleaning cycles in
sets of 3 cleaning/nozzle checks but as long as improvement is
continous it should solve the problem.

Please stop posting the above for every EPSON Stylus Color printer.
The above procedure WILL NOT work on the Stylus Color 800. Do you even
know what a Stylus Color 800 looks like?

Instead of just "slapping my paddies" why don't you enlighten me and the
rest of us. Provide something constructive like "what does work in your
opinion". That would be a little more helpful for the NG.

Get your hands on a Stylus Color 800 then do the following (from your
instructions);
Move the carriage assembly that holds the ink tanks to the center
and remove the ink tanks. Drip some windex (actually my cleaning
solution is best) into the ink ports that penetrate the tanks.
Reinstall the ink tanks and let set for 30 minutes and do the
following procedure as prescribed by Epson:
Now describe to me how you managed to remove the ink tanks while the
carriage assembly is in the center.
My problem with you posting the above procedure is that you apply it
to every model of the Epson Stylus Color printer. You once applied it
to the Stylus Color 3000.
>And why won't it work on an ESC800? I had an ESC800 and it worked on mine;
>well a similar process did.
Would you mind describing how you remove the ink tanks while the print
head carriage assembly is in the center. If you could do it with ease
then I will shut up.
>And yes, Al knows full well what an ESC800 looks
>like. He's been in the print business for years.
And how the fuck do you know. He has not acknowledge it that he does.
Be prepaired to shut up as you say you will, it's really very simple.:-)

So, what's the procedure?
The procedure is in your manual for replacing outdated ink tanks. It nay
also be under your cover.
Here is the one that usually works:
Hold down the paper load/eject button for more than three seconds to
move the head to the change cartridge position.
Cheers & Happy Printing,

The same basic procedure will work for nearly all the Epsons as they all
use a nozzle cleaning process. If there are little nuances from one to
another - I don't have the time to specify every one. The user should
have some responsibility in finding information - it is all readily
available. I try to help as best I can and with a limited time budget.

Al
You got it about all right. The ammonia is fine and that is what I
generally recommend here. You can drip the solution into the ports (I
always have) but I agree injecting it is better and we use the same set
up with aquarium hose and a larger syringe (60cc). Be careful you don't
break those ports - right?
You probably don't get many epsons in cause people get mad and turn them
into boat anchors (with a little concrete) or test their aerodynamic
capabilities from a high window!
Anytime you have some suggestions for me and the group, send them. We're
not into repair and only trying to provide some service here so we're
missing a lot of info I'm sure.

Al
>The procedure is in your manual for replacing outdated ink tanks. It may

The procedure for replacing an outdated ink cartridge is never printed
under the printer cover.
>Here is the one that usually works:

The above will not work on the Stylus Color 800.
" Hold down the ALT button for several seconds and release when the
print head moves to the change cartridge position."
I'm not communicating with you any further. You are providing erroneous
information apparently in defence of your critical and flawed thinking.
I could send you a picture of the change cartridge instructions under
the cover of some Epsons - so don't say NEVER.
Hi Al, I always advise people to use a syringe to squirt some ammonia into
the ink-tubes as suggested, however your idea of dripping the ammonia into
the tube may be better as some people are very hamfisted and may apply a lot
of pressure when injecting. As it's very difficult to direct drops of liquid
into the tubes perhaps if one places a short length of tubing over the
ink-tube - about an inche - and then drips the solution into that, it would
prevent getting ammonia all over the place, it would also prevent excessive
pressure being applied.

I don't need to look it up, I know how to do it.
1. Simultaneously hold down both the black and colour cleaning button
for at least three seconds.
2. Change the black ink cartridge if required.
3. Press the load/eject button or press and hold for a few seconds to
change the colour cartridge.
4. Change the ink cartridge
5. Press the load/eject button
>" Hold down the ALT button for several seconds and release when the
>print head moves to the change cartridge position."
There is NO ALT button on an EPSON Stylus Color 800. However, there is
an ALT button on an EPSON Stylus 800. Again you look up the wrong
printer model. For someone who has been in the printer business you
seem to know jack shit about the EPSON Stylus Color printers.
>I'm not communicating with you any further. You are providing erroneous
>information apparently in defence of your critical and flawed thinking.
You are the one who is providing erroneous information. You don't even
know that there is a big difference between an EPSON Stylus Color 800
and an EPSON Stylus 800.
>I could send you a picture of the change cartridge instructions under
>the cover of some Epsons - so don't say NEVER.
Let me type slowly so that you can understand. We are discussing the
procedure on how to change an outdated ink cartridge. That is neither
the black nor the colour ink out light is flashing. That information
is not printed anywhere on the printer. The instruction printed is for
changing an ink cartridge when either the black or colour ink out
light is flashing.
