Today, 37 days out from ISC’13, there are about 33 square meters (355 square feet) of free space left on the show floor – enough for three small booths. We’re offering these booths at very competitive prices, so, if you’re interested in showcasing your product or research at the largest global HPC gathering this June, please contact Ms. Anna Schachoff at anna.sc...@isc-events.com<mailto:anna.sc...@isc-events.com>.
If you haven’t yet registered for the conference, you can still save up to 25 percent off the onsite registration fees by taking advantage of early-bird registration, which ends next Wednesday, May 15. When we announced last year that we’re going to Leipzig, many vendors and attendees who had become familiar with Hamburg were curious about our new location. So, to get accustomed to the city as well as to discover it better from socio-economic and cultural perspectives, our communication team recently interviewed Mr. Uwe Albrecht, the Deputy Mayor of Leipzig.
Albrecht revealed some interesting information about the city. For example, Leipzig is an upcoming biomedicine and biotech powerhouse. Thanks to various education and research facilities – Leipzig University (the alma mater of Germany’s current Chancellor, Angela Merkel), about 10 colleges and universities, three Max Planck institutes and two Fraunhofer institutes and a host of non-university research centres – the city is an upcoming R&D hub strategically located in center of the European Union. Automobile groups, BMW and Porsche, are also expanding their manufacturing, thus creating 1,800 new high-quality jobs. Finally, the Congress Center Leipzig (CCL) is one of the most modern conference facilities in Europe. ISC’13 Poster Award
The ISC’13 Poster Award winners are Vince Betro and Mark Fahey of University of Tennessee for their poster on Performance of the Fusion Code GYRO on Three Generations of Cray Computers.
The award presentations will take place 1:00 – 1:30 PM, Monday, June 17 in the CCL, Leipzig.

Leipzig – Things to do

From now until our last newsletter, shortly before ISC, we’ll be sharing tourist tips with you, offering places of interest, as well as recommended restaurants and bars.
This time around we feature the Mädlerpassage<http://isc-events.us1.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=f8143844ff9ef5d2f467e52cd&id=50142ebf32&e=d764629c73> and Auerbachs Keller.
According to the tour guide, Lonely Planet, the historic Mädlerpassage is easily among the world’s most beautiful shopping arcades and we choose not to defer. A mix of neo-Renaissance and Art Nouveau, it opened as a trade hall in 1914 and was renovated at great expense in the early 1990s. Today it is home to shops, bars and restaurants. There are statues of Faust, Mephistopheles and some students, but according to tradition you should touch Faust's foot for good luck.
The shopping arcade also features Auerbachs Keller (Auerbach's Cellar). Founded in 1525, it is one of Germany’s best-known restaurants. It’s cozy and touristy, the food is excellent and the setting is memorable. In Goethe’s Faust - Part I, Mephistopheles and Faust carouse here with students before riding off on a barrel. The scene is depicted on a carved tree trunk in what is now the Goethezimmer (Goethe Room), where the great writer allegedly came for “inspiration.”
