If it wasn't so funny I would have believed it was a legitimate HP press
release.
I ran into a guy today. Had a crazed look in his eyes, and was wielding an
aluminum baseball bat. From a safe distance, I asked him if there was a
problem. His gaze fastened upon me as he raised the bat and asked me my
initials. Upon my reply of DF, he asked if I knew anyone with the initials JF.
I pointed North, and asked him his name. I think he said something like Ken
Farmer as he tore off Northward.

Sooo classic. I'm sure I'll be hearing about this for years. At least it
was only up for a few hours. Henry Juengst emailed me around 1am and
luckily I was still awake to get it down.

or, for those without appriciation for humor:

:-)

Oh... give the guy a break...
He works hard to pick any/all news about VMS, and he just took this one which
*looked* legitimate and posted it right away.
I say he should have left it alone, and just added the "About HP" paragraphs
which he had snipped. And perhaps just a last line such as "if you're read
this far and still haven't figured out it was a hoax, you need to go to your
local shop and buy a sense of humour".
Now, it's often been said that IA64 runs hot. I've heard throug the gapevine
that HP plans to have Ink cooled servers, wich will also act as a central Ink
servers feeding a cluster of HP printers. "By feeding hot ink to printers,
we'll be able to increase print quality and copies will dry much faster"....
Actually, the problem was that you posted this announcement 82 days early...

Nah, that's when HP posts it. ;-}

OK, I didn't quite get it. On Netscape, it essentially displays as a blank
page below the name "Carly Fiorina" (eg: no speeches listed.)
validator.w3.org finds 43 mistakes, including invalid/unbalanced table
elements. Took a look at the code and there are in fact some speeches listed
in there.
However, on MOSAIC/VMS, I was able to look at the page and there are quite a
lot of speeches.
So, I am not quite sure where the humour really is.
Uh..... it isn't the target, ... it's that fiorina and her speaches are a
joke. The URL itself is a joke. You might agree?

I don't see Fiorina as a joke. Her (hair) style, management style and her
goons have ensured that HP prevented VMS from coming out of its hiding place
at Compaq and shine again.
The "under new management" would have been the perfect excuse to fix previous
mistakes (such as the open word) and give VMS a chance.
I see Fiorina, Stallard, Winkler etc as the enemy and view their speeches and
staements as carefyully worded propaganda that sets the stage for their next
moves, and thus must be scrutinized very carefully.
I view VMS aws being a prisoner of war, having been captured by a competitor
and kept in a dark and humid prison cell with just basis sustinance. HP have
done nothing to earn the respect of VMS customers. We're loyal to VMS, not to
HP. HP is a necessary evil because Digital failed under Palmer and Compaq
failed under Capellas. And hopefully Fiorina will accept some cushy government
job ASAP and *MAYBE* the new head of HP will bring VMS into the mainstream.
Odds are low, but there is always hope.
