Thanks !

Them? Your VMS passwords? Or whatever Oracle passwords you've encountered?

If the former: http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/204

Google (or Bing or DuckDuckGo or Blekko) is your friend, too. This is
not the first time somebody's forgotten a password, after all.

You're right, I was unclear.
Them = Oracle passwords.
I stated it in the subject, but I forgot to outline in the body.

I already got rid of VMS ones.

Bing finds the following information on resetting a forgotten database
system password, and which look to be a reasonable starting point...

http://oracle.ittoolbox.com/groups/technical-functional/oracle-db-l/how-to-reset-oracle-database-system-user-password-445054

https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=2308978&tstart=0
https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=9201557&tstart=0

http://docs.oracle.com/html/B13738_01/apb.htm
http://docs.oracle.com/html/B10506_01/ch1.htm

And the Oracle OTN forums are where the Oracle folks tend to lurk. Not
so much here in c.o.v., though you might get lucky.

I've already found many og them, except the last two, VMS related.
I should adapt Windows tips.
I couldn't connect through
sqplplus / as sysdba, since may be I'm connected through the wrong user (SYSTEM).
I should check which users are registered in the system.

Don't know what version of Oracle you've got but prior to 10.x you ahev to
use double quotes as in:

$ SQLPLUS "/ as sysdba"

On a VMS 6.2 you probably don't have 10.x of Oracle.

If you don't know what user has the SYSDBA right, check the owner of the
Oracle files (executables or database files) with DIR/SEC or the user
running the instances (SH SYS/FU/PROC=*PMON)

SQL*Plus: Release 3.1.3.5.1 - Production on Fri Feb 13 03:22:54 2009

Copyright (c) Oracle Corporation 1979, 1994. All rights reserved.

ERROR: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied

I logon into VMS as user ORACLE (all files are owned by this user)

Use the VMS SYSTEM user when you're doing this sort of database
administration. (Use of the system-level user was explicitly mentioned
in some of those replies I'd linked to, when you're attempting to
override access.)

Better, wipe the disks and reinstall from distros, and don't deal with
ancient software unless you have to.

You're going to have enough "fun" with that Jensen box, anyway.

Or sign up for OTN, and go ask the Oracle folks in their own fourms.
If you're allergic to OTN for some reason, then try asking over in the
comp.databases.oracle.server group.

The result is the same, with ORACLE or SYSTEM.
Other accounts login with a custom menu that manages the db (it should
be a rdbms), but they fails.

I'm tempted, since the system is a bit messy. There are two shadow set each
with a missing disk
(DKA100, DKA200) (DKA300,DKA400),
DKA200 and DKA300 are missing,
They are mounted at startup with the /shadow option,
mount dsa0: /shadow=($1$dka100:,$1$dka200:) /system V47701_sys
and DKA100 is the system disk. According to a friend of mine this is not a
good practice ...

No, I never wrote on OTN. I have just posted a hopeless message,
since my version is really old :(

Thanks !

I managed to reset all the passwords, thanks to the OTN forum ;)

Asking your question in the right place often helps.

And because the poster inexplicably didn't include details here nor nor
link to a blog topic or other posting, here is the URL of the
associated OTN discussion:

https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=10638742

...with the details of how to {break into / reset / change / remember /
alter / recover} the {forgotten / lost / corrupt / missing} database
passwords for (as it turns out) the Oracle7 Server Release 7.1.5.2.3 -
Production Release - on OpenVMS Alpha V6.2.

Looks like the core SQL command is:

ALTER USER CRT IDENTIFIED BY CRT;
CONNECT CRT/CRT

where the target user (in this case) is CRT.

See the OTN discussion for details.

Touché :)

I was writing from another PC and I hadn't the details handy ...

Here they are:

VMS 6.2 / Oracle V7 (Oracle7 Server Release 7.1.5.2.3)

1) Login as ORACLE user (SYSTEM is not enough).

2) SQLDBA

3) CONNECT INTERNAL

4) SELECT USERNAME FROM DBA_USERS; In order to get a list of the DB users.

5) ALTER USER xxx IDENTIFIED BY password; xxx is an user chosen from
the list 4), password is a new password chosen by us.

6) CONNECT xxx/password or EXIT;

Then we can login with SQLPLUS.

Hmmm, now I understand the meaning of "you're allergic".
I had some troubles in the forum, since I haven't
an Oracle license (but the former owner did) ;)

Oracle does not like to be managed from the SYSTEM account.
You just can't use an account with UIC group <= SYSGEN(MAXSYSGROUP)

It`s been over 10 years since I've been using Oracle 7.3 I have forgotten
you couldn't do this from SQLPLUS back then.

This must be a command symbol.
The real command is SVRMGRL
