Two questions bout burning cd's on VMS. I put a Sony CD-RW model CRX
185E3 in a Compaq XP1000 6/500 with 512 MB memory and VMS V8.3, hardly
any updates installed.
- is the Sony supported by cdrecord? It has no problems as a cdrom
drive.
- where does one find the kit, Freeware cd's or is there a URL?

I don't know. I'd expect it to work.

That depends on how old a version you'd like to use. I
tend to use something recent, which means that I normally find
it on my server:

http://antinode.info/dec/sw/cdrtools.html

An IDE drive on an XP1000 will use much of the CPU.

Well, apparently I had an old URL (antinode.org) which is why I needed
c.o.v. to point me in the correct direction.
I have no SCSI writer, all I have is the Sony IDE. I just think it's
neat to have the functionality under VMS, though writing
VMS disks on a pc is not difficult.

DVD-writers are so cheap nowadays and they do work under OpenVMS just
like CD-drives.

Google still works around here.

The DVD-writing drive in one of my XP1000 systems is IDE.
For CDs, I still use an old SCSI Yamaha drive, which doesn't
need the whole CPU.

Well, my Sony drive works. I had trouble with a
Toshiba/Samsung drive.
