CALL FOR PAPERS

TINA'99
Telecommunications Information Networking Architecture Conference 1999

Turtle Bay Resort, Oahu, Hawaii, USA - 12-15 April 1999

The Application of Distributed Computing Technologies to
Telecommunications Solutions

The Telecommunication Information Networking Architecture (TINA)
Consortium announces the TINA'99 Conference on applications of
state-of-the-art distributed computing technologies to problems of the
globally converging telecommunications and computing domains.

TINA'99 is an open international conference, soliciting participation
from researchers and developers in open networking technologies
related to telecommunication and information systems.

HOSTED BY: Hewlett-Packard Laboratories

IN COOPERATION WITH:
IEEE Communications Society
Object Management Group

SUPPORTED BY:
Hewlett-Packard Company
TINA Consortium

CONFERENCE STRUCTURE AND PARTICIPATION

TINA'99 consists of advanced tutorials, keynote addresses, technical
sessions, and panel sessions. The advanced tutorials are on 12 April,
with the keynote addresses, technical sessions, and panel sessions
occupying a single track on 13-14 April and until noon on 15 April.

GUIDELINES FOR TECHNICAL SESSION PAPERS

TINA'99 encourages discussion on the application of distributed
computing technologies to telecommunications solutions. Extended
abstracts should be submitted to the correspondence address below.

We solicit papers in the following four areas:

1. Original work in the extension/refinement of the TINA architecture
and technologies.
2. Experience papers in the application of the TINA architecture and
technologies to telecommunications solutions.
3. Original work in the extension/refinement of other distributed
computing technologies with application to telecommunications
solutions.
4. Experience papers in the application of other distributed computing
technologies to telecommunications solutions.

All papers must be validated by implementation experience; papers that
do not describe experience with an application to telecommunications
problems will NOT be accepted.

A paper in categories 1 or 3 above must describe validating experience
with a prototype based upon the proposed extension/refinement.

A paper in categories 2 or 4 above should focus on the salient aspects
of an application of these technologies with the goal of guiding/helping

other practitioners in their attempts to apply these technologies in
similar ways.

Architectural/technological extensions/refinements are solicited in
(but are not limited to) the following areas:

* Languages (definition languages, implementation languages)
* Agent technologies
* Novel communication mechanisms (e.g. publish/subscribe)
* Application protocols
* Scalability issues
* Federation issues
* Security issues
* Performance issues
* Quality of service provisioning and monitoring
* Service creation environments
* Impacts of mobility
* Configuration, monitoring, and management of large scale,
distributed systems
* Connection management
* Availability/fault-tolerance

Application experiences are solicited in (but are not limited to)
the following areas:

* internet-based services
* intranet/VPN
* web-based services
* retailer services
* mobile services
* integration with IN
* service, network, or subscription management
* multimedia services

TUTORIALS

Proposals for half-day and full-day tutorials are solicited. The
tutorials will be focussed on two particular themes: enabling
distributed computing technologies for telecommunications solutions,
and telecommunication-specific technologies or experiences.
Proposals should be submitted to the correspondence address below.
