I use the system in my work OS-9 / 68K v2.4 on processor 680030. The
system is loaded from the station of floppy disks /d0hd. I connected
the disc HDD scsi. The system recognizes him as /h0, but the mistake
returns me near the test of formatting: 000:255. Unfortunately, I do
not have the tool DMODE which will let me alter the descriptor
allowing to format this disc in this compilation. How I can format the
disc HDD, without this tool? I know that walks about the resetting one
bit in the module RBF. Which? Is it maybe the possible hand edition
hex, the module RBF and renewed loading to the memory?

Dmode isn't a standard utility for OSK 2.4, but moded is, so:

- Save the hdd descriptor to disk (or make a copy of it).
You may find it in /dd/CMDS/BOOTOBJS. You may also find
a pre-made formattable descriptor because it it not usual
to include formattable descriptors in the bootfile but most
systems have one.

- Use moded to reset the bit and change the module name.
If the original is called 'dd', 'fmt_dd' would be good.
Save the descriptor.

- Load this descriptor, iniz it and use it to format the disk.
Keep it for future reference.

Unfortunately, I do not possess the module MODED. Does he someone
possesses maybe and is to help me in the state? Through the command
Save, I wrote down on the disc the descriptor h0. Does someone know
maybe as to edit him by hand to unblock formatting HDD and alter what?

In that case go to the OS-9 Archive: http://os9archive.rtsi.com/
and download beav. It is a hex editor. Use it to change the descriptor as
I described and then use fixmod to correct the module checksum. This does
the same job as moded - its just a more difficult way to do it.

The standard manual set had a very complete, though concise, description
of a disk descriptor.
