> Tab equipment programming for processing punch cards and compiling

This is entirely untrue. The 1401 was a completely programable
computer, it did not use wired panels. Also, punch cards were not
patterned after the dollar bill. They were a completely different size
(larger, in all directions), and were designed to hold data in a
format that could be read by using wires to sense the holes. The wire
"brushes" needed a certain spacing between the holes, so they wouldn't
overlap, and they needed a certain length where there was a hole, so
the wire could fall through and make contact with the contact roll.
That is what governed the size of punch cards.
Now, since it is apparent that neither one of you knows what you are
talking about, how about shutting up, and let the rest of us get on
with life.
Thanks...

You are right about that. It used to be "common knowledge" that the
were, but apparently more recent investigations have refuted that.

Is there an echo in here?
Double-A

Do you intend to, Double-A?

Been there, done that. Where have you been, Double-A?
Still suffering from reading comprehension problems,
Double-A?
594> How has it been having a birthday so close to the 4th of July?
What does your classic erroneous presupposition of a question have
to do with OS/2, Double-A?

Heh, heh. I'm Cornholio. I need teepee for my bunghole.
I am pondering it.

How about one more time for the Gipper!

I was just wondering whether all your birthday presents blew up?

Is OS/2 echoic of any previous systems?
Double-A
595> I am pondering it.
How long do you intend to ponder it, Double-A?
595> How about one more time for the Gipper!
What does that have to do with OS/2, Double-A?
595> I was just wondering whether all your birthday presents blew up?
What does your ridiculous question have to do with OS/2, Double-A?
595> Is OS/2 echoic of any previous systems?
Non sequitur.
27> Heh, heh.
What does your amusement have to do with OS/2, Nightcrawler?
27> I'm Cornholio.
What does that have to do with OS/2, Nightcrawler?
27> I need teepee for my bunghole.
What does that have to do with OS/2, Nightcrawler?
For as long as it takes, Tholen.

The Gipper died, you know.

Reidiculous how?

Tell me the truth, Tholen, do you really like using OS/2? Or is it
just the only thing that will run on the PS/2 it came on?
Double-A
596> For as long as it takes, Tholen.
Takes to do what, Double-A?
596> The Gipper died, you know.
What does that have to do with OS/2, Double-A?
596> Reidiculous how?
What is "Reidiculous", Double-A?
596> Tell me the truth, Tholen, do you really like using OS/2?
596> Or is it just the only thing that will run on the PS/2 it came
on?
Irrelevant, given that I haven't run OS/2 on a PS/2 in at least
ten years, Double-A.
Don't you remember? A senior moment, Tholen!

The Gipper ran a lot of things: the double-reverse, the statue of
liberty, the long bomb. Maybe he ran OS/2 as well.

The University of Hawaii bought you a new PC 10 years ago? Well
good! I thought they spent all their money on their football team!
Double-A
596> Don't you remember?
What does your question have to do with OS/2, Double-A?
596> A senior moment, Tholen!
How long are your senior moments, Double-A? Does it usually
take you a senior moment to ponder a decision to use an
operating system, Double-A?
596> The Gipper ran a lot of things: the double-reverse, the statue
of
596> liberty, the long bomb.
What does that have to do with OS/2, Double-A?
596> Maybe he ran OS/2 as well.
Maybe not.

596> Well good! I thought they spent all their money on their
596> football team!
What does your ridiculous thought have to do with OS/2, Double-A?
Is it really so ridiculous? Your head football coach until just
recently, June Jones, who was born here in Portland, Oregon, played
quarterback at Portland State University, where I attended school and
graduated. I see he has now moved on to SMU. His annual salary is
$2,000,000. How does that compare to your salary as a world class
astronomer, author, and outstanding man of science?
Double-A

597> How does that compare to your salary as a world class
597> astronomer, author, and outstanding man of science?
What does your question have to do with OS/2, Double-A? Also
non sequitur, given that you were talking about a university
spending all of its money on football, Double-A, not just
$2,000,000.
Hit a sore spot, did I? To think that someone might be more highly
valued for his ability to implement the "Run and Shoot" method for
winning football games than a person who is actually solving the
mysteries of the solar system! Of course there are those scientists
who have discovered that pseudo-science pays much better than real
science. Such has been true from the days of Kepler down to the more
recent times of Tom Van Flandern. You could sell more books, Tholen,
if you would fill them with talk of exploding planets and wild
speculations about aliens! Maybe throw in a little astrology and
Bible code for good measure! Putting on the esteemed uniform of the
Sean Earth Science Officer's Corp of alt.astronomy couldn't hurt
either! You could be the next Dan Brown!

Soooo, what are the major applications you are running under OS/2?
Double-A
599> Soooo, what are the major applications you are running under OS/
2?
Depends on what you consider "major", Double-A. Is a compiler a
"major" application? How about a Network Time Protocol clock
synchronization program? A text editor?
What kind of compilers?
Double-A
600> What kind of compilers?
Programming language compilers, Double-A.
Do you use compilers on your OS/2 system? If so, which programming
languages do you compile?
Double-A
601> Do you use compilers on your OS/2 system?
Of course; kind of hard to write programs high level languages
without one, Double-A.
601> If so, which programming languages do you compile?
What does your question have to do with OS/2, Double-A?
602> Nothing.
Then why did you post it in an OS/2 newsgroup, Double-A?
602> Good night.
Classic erroneous presupposition.
28> Which programming languages do you compile in OS/2, tholen?
Whichever ones I need, Nightcrawler. You know, right tool for
the job sort of stuff.
Double-A
603> Do you use the FOCUS language on your OS/2 machine?
No.
