DHCP on OS2

I have recently taken over an OS2 domain and within the domain is a
dhcp server that is on hardware that is failing. I have no
documentation and need a step by step to first modify the scope of
dhcp on the existing hardware and then bring up a new scope on another
OS2 box that is doing DNS. Any help here would be most appreciated.

Thanks-

James

Hi James

If we are talking OS/2 Server operating system then, Sorry, I cannot
claim any knowledge of the product so cannot advise directly.

I do suspect that some documentation is available somewhere on the
system though...

You should be able to read up on os/2 and dhcp from the Help files.

Is there a Help icon anywhere on the desktop?

If not does the directory [BootDrive:]\os2\book
exist and contain a collection of files with the extension INF?

You could also try the search tool to locate *.INF files if the above
directory does not exist/is empty.

I suspect dhcp help files could be found by searching for filename
*dhcp*.inf

Hope the above is of some help :-)

I have a few thoughts on this.

First, what hardware are you using? Also what version of OS/2 is this DHCP

server? Ths might help us to understand your situation better.

Next, DHCP is fairly generic. A Linux or Unix box could probably take
over
the DHCP job without any problems. You would only need to know the
existing scope parameters to do this.

Third, is it possible to copy data off the old hard drive? An option in
your situation would be to copy the contents of the old hard drive to new
hardware, and then add any drivers for SCSI, RAID, network and video adapters

that might be needed. This is reasonably easy if you have a bootable
CDROM you could use to boot the new hardware, then copy driver files and
edit CONFIG.SYS.

Finally, take a look at this OS/2 system, and search for a folder called
DHCP Server Services. There should be a link to the DHCP Administration
Guide in that folder. Also, the INF files describing DHCP should be located
in
either \MPTN\HELP or TCPIP\HELP.
