Recently I have noticed an huge increase in SPAM in some groups that
seems very hard to filter out of Pronews, and I am looking at tips
that others have for handling this. The "problem" is that the
"filter" fields do not sesm (to me) to be flexible enough to handle
this, especially as the subject and composer fields are constantly
changing.
Has anyone else noticed this and come up with a better method of
filtering these?
Thanks................pk.

Forward copies of the spam to the abuse address in the headers.

Fat lot of good that'll do. The abuse address of all that shite coming
from usenetmonster.com and usenetnow.com are all garbage.
I use Changi to run my own newsserver and it's very easy to add a filter
to get rid of this stuff at source.
Who is your news server? I pay 10 EUR/year to
https://news.individual.net/
It is run by Freie Universitt Berlin and seems to do a pretty good
job of filtering out the spam.

My local ISP provides most of my General news groups and they are the
worst offenders by far. I also go to eComstation, Mozilla and Gmane
but these ones are usually pretty good for spam, its the General
groups that are my biggest complaint. As I tend to follow the
non-Windows groups the most my ISP seems not that interested in
handling complaints........;-(
So far Pauls option with Changi seems the best way forward for me, but
I am not big on news groups and was looking for a simple option. I
have 1 or 2 general groups that I follow seriously, and those are the
ones that seem to be hit the most......;-)
Cheers......................pk.
