Anybody using Changi newsserver with AIOE.org free new server?
I'm currently using NR2, but it's not as nice as my old setup.
Thanks,
Steve N.
Now that I know about AIOE I might try it, but I don't understand which setup
you are referring to and its relation to NR2.
With another provider, that supported a news server, I setup Changi
to read the news groups I was interested in. Then I used NR/2 to
browse using Changi's local copy. Prevents time-out errors, and can
be much faster. Trying to setup with AIOE, I either forgot how to do
it, or AIOE has timing issues.

I use NR2 as you do, and I can understand your forgetting how to install another
news server because we don't do it often and the Changi docs are incomplete on
this point and no longer correct for the version I am using. My recollection is
that an incorrect setup produces no error messages but no news either.
Look in your Changi directory and ensure that you have an AIOE equivalent item
to those of other news servers. Then update getnews.cmd.
I am too preoccupied to do that experiment now although I feel I should try
another server because some groups seem to be silent when Google says they are
not.
Hi,
Thanks for replying. Okay, I'll try to setup Changi
again. AIOE does seem to block some sources, so I do
check into Google, but I don't like the browser interface.
And I mangled a post to another group by posting from a
M$ browser intermediary.
And AIOE times out NR/2's connection if I try to type a
post. (!) So. there is an incentive. Or I could learn to
type faster I guess. (Ha. Old dog, new trick problem.)

Steve N.
