FWIW: does the ancient WordPerfect/2 still work with e.g. Warp 4 or
eCS?

I've got all files from a working install. But after copying all DLL
files to the same directory, it SYS3175s with eCS 1.2. Its INSTALL.EXE
works, but asks for disk 2.

ISTR there was a way to tweak the installer into getting past that. I
can try and dig that up later.

It works fine on Warp 4. I was able to get it working on MCP as well,
and possibly even eCS 1.0 (I don't clearly remember), but in eCS 1.1
and higher I could never get it to run without crashing. (I had some
back-and-forth discussion with a few more knowledgeable people about
trying to debug what was going wrong, but I got sidetracked and eventually
lost interest after OpenOffice became available.)

You do have to deregister the WPS classes it installs in order to run
it on OS/2 4.5x, as I recall.

I did try WP 5.2 for OS/2 briefly on Warp 4 (I think, but it might have
been Warp 3), but reverted to WP for DOS running in OS/2. I understand
that there was an updated version of WP/2, but I never did get hold of a
copy.

For years I found that WP 7 for Win 3.x worked well in WinOS2, but I no
longer have a need for fancy word processing and did not reinstall it
when I reinstalled eCS.

Thanks for confirming that. If needed, I can try that too.

About the same here. AFAICT I installed WP/2 once in the early 90s,
just because an employer had it, and kept the files.

Thanks. I now know enough to not delete the WP/2 files, but there's no
need to hurry. I'll rate it nice-to-have, and due to digging we'll
maybe get something out of the wreckage one day. If it's possible and
documented how to reinstall it, it'll reinstall it.

About the same here, hence the FWIW. The rest of the world assumes
Word, without perfection. I haven't lost a few chapters of my diary,
and the last WP version I really had in use (and still installed in
working order) was WP 5.1 for DOS.

I still have the same directory structure and drive layout (except for
some unimportant., recreatable PL directory), so it's not unlike that
classes play a role. If it moved files to the bootdrive, I may have
lost those too, but so far it only complained about DLLs in a
directory that wasn't inlcuded in the LIBPATH yet .

Probably not usefull, but FTR. This is the POPUPLOG.OS2-entry when the
DLLs are copied to the main WP52-directory (as opposed to changing the
LIBPATH):

FWIW I am running WP5.1 for DOS in a DOSBOX (plain OS2 standard) under
ECS21. Works fine. I also use OO quite a lot but I haev a lot of
customised stuff in WP that I would not like to lose.

Yup, IIRC the only "problem" is that my eCS 1.2 DATABASE.TXT thinks
it's Multimate. There are a few WP.EXEs in that OS file. Only a name
change is required.

Again IIRC, a slightly related app, DataPerfect, will also work in a
VIO window instead of the default DATABASE.TXT fullscreen session.

BTW, my WP51.ICO file isn't that old. It's based on other WP icons.
