Silvan Scherrer has released the second beta of the port of SMPlayer
0.6.8. SMPlayer is a GUI front-end for MPlayer, a command-line movie
player that is available for many systems and supports a wide range of
formats and codecs, either natively or via Win32 DLL codecs. For
instance, you can watch VideoCD, SVCD, DVD, 3ivx, DivX 3/4/5, WMV, and
even H.264 movies.

SMPlayer intends to be a complete front-end for MPlayer, from basic
features like playing videos, DVDs, and VCDs to more advanced features
like support for MPlayer filters and more.

Changes since beta 1:

* fixed hang with broken media
* changed to Qt4 beta4

The package is available at:

ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/smplayer/smplayer-0.6.8-beta2.zip

Not sure if this is the QT4 library issue, or the player code, but on my system,
the player has a real hard time recognizing that the CD/DVD drives do NOT have
media loaded in them.

I get the standard OS2 pop-up message telling me that the drives are 'empty'
when I attempt to use the internal "Chose a Open File" function from within the
program.

I did not have this error in the previous version.

Do you mean the previous beta or 0.5.21 which was based on Qt3? Could
you please report this to Silvan (see readme file for address).

The problem I describe is visible in the 0.6.8 Beta 2 of SMPlayer. I did not see
it in my previous installation, which was QT3 based...not sure what version of
the program it was...but 0.5.x for sure...

I will report the problem to Silvan...Thanks!
