I am in need of a MHS to SMTP gateway. We run DaVinci e-mail on a Netware
3.12 LAN, and also have a Unix TCP/IP LAN. The Unix LAN will soon be
connected to the Internet, and I want to be able to gateway Internet
e-mail back and forth to DaVinci e-mail. Currently, we are not running
MHS on the Netware server, since DaVinci doesn't require it for a
local-only setup, but we can run it if required.

I'd like to be able to run the gateway on the Netware server, using TCP/IP
to talk to a Unix mail hub running sendmail v8. If that's not possible,
then a standalone PC for the gateway would be OK. I don't think I need
any fancy functionality, since I can do any aliasing and re-addressing on
the sendmail hub.

If you have a suggestion, please send me e-mail, or post here. Thanks!

Novell Global MHS supports an SMTP gateway. It works OK but you will need to be
prepared to cope with addresses of the form

mailbox%workroup...@smtpgateway.domain.com

by munging sendmail on the (required) smart host. ast and stable from what we
have seen though.

PS Infinity systems (?) also do an MHS<->SMTP gateway for 1.5 MHS. Addressing
looks saner - never used it though.

We do not have Global MHS, just plain old MHS 1.5. Having to add yet
another piece of software makes the cost prohibitive.

Do you have contact info for this company?

I got Xgate 1.40 from omnigate.clarkson.edu. When I ran into some
problems with it, I called the number in the manual, and was told that
Xgate is not a product anymore, that Infinite Tech. had bought it and
called it C2SMTP. The price was raised from $199 to $1299.

The docs for Charon say that a MHS gateway is in the works. Does anybody
know if this has, or will, happen? The latest version I find is 4.0.

I've installed Mercury (& used Pegasus e-mail as client) on a Novell
network and like it pretty well. I'm still not much of a novell
person, but I think that it uses MHS. You can get it from risc.ua.edu.
