DOS question
In dos, say using an Autoexec.bat file, tell it to read a directory and depending on the file name, create a variable using that file name? I want to create a generic autoexec.bat file to use on a CDROM bootdisk to boot an image depending on what image is copied onto the same CDRom. Help appreciated.... more »

WFW3.11 Dos, and Internet access over home network.
Hey classic OS users. A friend recently gave me an old Pentium 120 with 20MB of ram, and 200MB HD. It also has an Intel EtherExpress PRO/10+ ISA LAN adapter. So I decided I would take this system and install Dr. Dos 7.03, and WFW 3.11. However I don't have any clue how to access my home network with this type of setup. My home network has a D-Link router that... more »

DOS boot loader
Hi, I was told after the first DOS bootloader is in the first sector of the boot drive. It's 512 byte assembly code. Is this an open source? Where can I find one? If not, can I find at least the algorithm about it? Thanks.

Applications in ROM
Many early laptops, such as the Tandy 200, NEC-8500, and Sord IS-11C have all of their applications in ROM. So do some older i8088 laptops, like the Tandy 600, HP-110+, etc, and some Tandy p.c.'s have the DeskMate GUI in ROM. I have noticed that ibm coruptibles take longer to access a 2.5" HDD than my CoCo 3 or CP/M desktops take for a 5.25" floppy. But ROM-based... more »

corrupted file
Ok, I'm in big trouble. I went to save my .c file and when I pressed F2 in Rhide, it told me it couldn't find it (even though the code was right on the screen). I exited out, reboot my computer, and now my .c file is gone. I assume it's somehow corrupted. I don't understand what happened to it. Does anybody know of a way to recover it, or find out if it is still there?... more »
