DVD wont play

I have Dell Inspiron 2000. I recently reinstalled my windows XP. All
the drivers are working fine. Except the DVD.

It can play CD, install anything from CD but it cant play DVD. I think
i am missing some codec.
What should I do? I used to play dvd using powerdvd. But I dont want
to install it now. I want it to be played through real player or
windows media player.
