Also, along the same lines, I got a subsriction card from MS about
subscribing to MDJ. I hear people on this and other ms-windows groups talk
alot about this magazine, so my question is: Is it worth getting. Do the
people who subscribe to it like it?
Thanks.

Do you mean "MSJ" (Microsoft Systems Journal)? If so, then the answer is
definitely YES - this is an excellent source of information.

Well, I don't know about definitely. Out of the last six issues, I've found
two articles that taught me something. The others have been too MFC
specific (I program with Borland's OWL) or too self-serving. ("Here's what's
coming in Chicago. Too bad you can't use it yet.") I don't need to see
yet more propaganda on how Chicago will change the world in a programming
mag.
Sorry, got carried away. Basically, check out one or two sample issues. If
you find a good proportion of it useful, you'll probably think it's worth
it. However, like any mag, it's not for everyone.

Microsoft Systems Journal is *not* published by Microsoft - it has nothing to
do with Microsoft. It contains just as many articles about Borland compilers
and OWL as it does about Microsoft compilers and MFC.
I find with MSJ that it's not just what's useful NOW - I often have problems
that I can solve by referring to back issues of MSJ. My 5 years back issues
of MSJ are one of my most valuable reference sources.
Not really. :) I just expected more about Windows programming and less about
Windows programming with MFC or with Chicago controls that aren't out yet.

Reread my above message. I said, "in the last six issues," so I would only
be commenting on what I actually had read. In the scattered back issues I
have access to before that, I notice several mentions of Microsoft
trademarked products, but no Borland. Could you refer me to such an
article?
My intention was only to give another review of this magazine to someone
who was curious. I find balanced remarks gleaned from several sources more
useful than recommending something as the answer to everything.

Well, off hand, I'd say the article on Dynamic Dialogue boxes (March?)
was an even split between Borland and MS coverage.

Wasn't there an OWL article in the last few months?
