It is typically 10-100X faster than TCP/IP-based shared storage, and
works with all application software. It works by "simply" redirecting
the I/O calls to the disk controller instead of the LAN controller.
UNIX computers just see an NFS-mounted disk, and NT based users see a
standard shared drive.
