At the PC w/o the printer (remote), do:
1. Start|Settings|Printers
2. If the Host Printer is present in the Pinter window, highlight and
right-click.
3. Select Properties
4. In the Properties window, select the 'Details' tab.
5. Where it says 'Print to..Port' make sure 'LPT1' is selected; and that
the correct path to the Host printer is identified. Path should look
something like '\\Host\HP???'
This should do the job for you.

I also got the same problem....And I also using Hp deskjet
but mine is HP Deskjet 820Cxi. I also can see my files and printer
but just cannot print to the computer with the printer. I have
tried wat is written below.
I suspect....issit the Hp printer problem when connecting as a network printer.
I got the error on the remote printer with the printer....Error writing
to LPT1.
But when printing at the remote computer, there is no problem also..
Can somebody comment??..thanx.

On the computer WITHOUT the attached printer click on the network
neighborhood icon.
Click on the computer with the printer attached
RIGHT click on the printer icon attached to that computer and choose
INSTALL. THis installs the printer driver over the network from the
computer with the printer attached. Follow the prompts and when you are
done you can print a test page to see if things are working as they
should.
Hope this helps.

I did this, but it didn't work. When I print a test job on the
computer without the printer, I can see the job in the spooler on that
computer, then I can see the job in the spooler on the computer with
the printer attached to it, and then the job simply disappears without
any printer activity. The printer (an HP 660C) works fine when
printing from the computer to which it is connected.

Hewlett Packard didn't support networking of their 600 series deskjet
printers because they thought that most network users would exceed the
printer's duty cycle. However, they acknowledged that many home and
small office users had a legitimate need to network to share these
printers and have posted instructions at their web site. See:
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/printers/support_doc/bpd03087.html
for more information or search their support files for 660C+network.
