i'm in some real trouble here. help! 
  so last night i let firefox update itself. what a mistake that was! ever since, it can't detect a network connection and says "can't find server". IE has been doing the same thing ever since i installed SP2 (vista) which is why i was solely using firefox even though since WMP relies IE to look up cds, so it couldn't. so i got me another media... more »

QUESTION: what makes multiple hostnames possible?

At this place where I work we have servers that can be pinged using: ping SMTAPPU01 ...yet the ping starts with the statement: Pinging ldncsr0988.intra... I could tell you without much ado how to do it in Linux and BSD (bind, setsockopt SO_BINDTODEVICE, ip route tables). Im positive though, that similiar is possible with Windows, too.... more »
