Zombie HotSpot Won't Stay Deleted
I have an EnGenius USB wifi adapter and it seems to work better than the built in wifi in my laptop. At some locations I have a problem with a connection forming to one provider which doesn't work properly anymore. There are other hotspots available that do work ok. But it automatically connects to the one that doesn't work anymore.... more »

Control a Windows box from a Mac?
OK, here's the deal - I've just been handed a Windows box. It came complete with a fresh install of Windows XP, 30-ish gigs of open HD space, "some" RAM (enough that it can be booted, at least - beyond that, I haven't yet figured out how to look closely enough to say) and a power cord.... more »

Net Infrastructure
Hi all, in windows 7, from explorer, network, network infrastructure, you can see the type of router/modem that the system detects. Example Netgear 834. Very slow network speeds with proxy.pac scripts with a(n) internal/local proxy server.
Interesting. 64-bit Mac OS X 10.7.x clients, even with IPv6 support, do not have this slow down problem with Apache proxy setup with PAC scripts. Weird. Also, it happens in Windows 8 as well. :( On 6/14/2012 5:15 PM PT, Ant typed: ...-- Phillip Pi Senior Software Quality Assurance Analyst... more »

Very slow network speeds with proxy.pac scripts with a(n) internal/local proxy server.
Hi! I am trying to figure out why using simple/basic proxy.pac files with two different Intranet computer, acting as temporary web and proxy servers, make network speeds very slow for web even if the web sites are internal on LAN (Intranet). Web pages pause/hang and download speed is horrible like 300-2400 dial-up modems! If I don't use proxy.pac and just... more »

NT Mailserver Questions
I'm used to a Unix system where the mail for a particular user is stored on the server in a particular file and then can be downloaded to clients. If logged in, you can read, edit and move the file and its contents just like any other text file. I've been told that NT is different. Which of those don't apply? How... more »
