Persistent Routes in Lynx 4.x

Hi all,
I am observing a curious problem with the network routes defined on
Lynx 4.0 machine. I need the network routes to be persistent: thus the
routes are added when the system boots up through "rc.network". What I
am seeing is that if I make the Ethernet interface down the routes are
getting flushed. Is there anything that I could do to stop the routes
from being flushed when the Ethernet interface is made down.
