Okay this is pure troll bait, but I'll bite. What exactly is your point of
this post? You are not helping anyone or asking for any help. What did you
email these vendors about, sometimes consumers can be real buttholes too,
especially if they have no point in contacting the vendor other than to
stir up controversy.

Firstly what is the nature of your inquiries. Secondly the Linux
community doesn't really rely on vendors, the community supports itself.

I've been trying to resist replying to this thread (which seems like an
obvious troll) but I have to ask: how was your experience with Windows
system vendors? I've had some pretty bad first-hand experiences and
seen even worse stuff happen to others.

No matter what you're talking about (Linux, Windows, or toasters) you'll
find plenty of bad vendors (who rarely have repeat customers) and a
handful of top-notch vendors (who serve the same customers over and over
again). There's *nothing* Linux-specific about the situation described
in the original post.

Whether it's Windowzzz or Linux or whatever OS, you have to choose your
vendors carefully. Check-out their warranties, websites, whether
their address and phone number are openly published.
Give them a detailed explanation of your problem.
I've had the opposite experience. Most hardware vendors who
provide Linux compatable equipment are aware of the purposes of Open
Source and are favorable to supporting it and its advocates.
If you are a troll, you will fail here.

Can't go wrong with Cheapbytes - my only quibble with them is that they
don't always have the latest versions of distros, but other than that,
they're great... Just remember that this is open source at its most
open...
