If I send a print to the lazer printer, I get a document that begins:
%!PS-Adobe-3.0
%%Creator: T X Print Server's Postscript DDX (xprint.mozdev.or
I guess that the system thinks that my printer uses Postscript control codes.
I need to configure the system that my printer is an HP Laserjet 4, and thus
requires HP Laserjet 4 control codes.
I beleive that I have to use foomatic to convert the postscript job data into
the printers native format.
How can I do this ?
I am using Debian.
If I install cups onto a test Debian system, I can get the printer to work
from the test system. cups removes the lpr package from the test system and
installs foomatic as a dependency.
I don't want to use cups and I do not wish to remove the lpr package from my
computer.
How can I install foomatic and the appropriate filters for my laserjet 4, so
that I can print from Xprint ?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
Regards,
Mark.

You need drivers for that printer.
