Isn't that a very old KDE desktop?

Also interesting was the middle window (INTa?). The folder icons
are those used with CDE (desktop used on some UNIX systems like
Solaris). Since they don't match the other icons on the desktop
I reckon those are remote windows(?).

I recorded The Cape but haven't gotten around to seeing it yet.

It's certainly not Windoze.

You do realize you responded to a 5+ month old post?

Yes, eventually but now I know that someone is actually reading this
group. Thanks.

Understand. I had responded to this post back in January or February.
Not much activity since. I _much_ prefer using usenet to resolve
problems. Web forums are just to big a pain to deal with when you have
to cover the ground I do. They are slow, often clumsy, etc. But I rant--

I use LeafNode to download usenet groups that I am interested in. I
control when to read them and how long to retain the data. And it's
fast. It really is too bad that folks have deserted the usenet forums in
droves.

I have to agree. I use usenet for the sense of community as well as
finding needed information. I use Forte Agent for usenet mainly
because I have been using it since the first releases, I am familiar
with the way it works and I paid for it.

Agent is on my Windoze machine and I am gradually moving all of my
heavy use to my Linux machine and leaving Windows for game playing.

I'm still in the process of, once again, becoming familiar with Linux
after a period of several years. Much has changed including my
recollections. I'm getting old and my memory is not as good as it used
to be, damn it.

When you get to the point you want to replace Agent then you might take
a look at LeafNode. I have had good results with it. No complex to use.

Thanks. I had a look at knode but it, like all online readers, always
downloads the entire list of replies and their contents whether you
want them or not. All you can do is tell it not to display the stuff
already read. Agent actually only downloads the latest headers and I
can decide if I want that message downloaded or not. For example I do
not automatically download any message that is covered by the kill
file nor one that exceeds 500 lines in length. The latter simply
appear in the list of headers but unless i particularly want to view
it I don't download it. Very handy for some of those idiot trolls who
keep changing their credentials.

If LeafNode can do that then it may be what I want which is really an
off-line reader with controls on what is downloaded and when.

Note: I started in the days when 9600 baud was a fast modem and
dial-up was all the rage.
