When I run X'-windows, every image has two shadowy copies arranged
horizontally about half an inch apart on each side. Does anyone know
why? The Slackware was downloaded from sunsite a week ago. And my system
includes:

P5-90, 16M RAM
ATI PCI Mach64, 2M VRAM
MAG DX17F monitor
NCR PCI SCSI-2
..

Many thanks for any helpful info.

I have the same problem. Even worse, the manu rarely comes up when clicking
the mouse.

I have a very similar problem, and perhaps some extra observations which
might help diagnose the problem.

My configuration:
P5-100, 32 MB RAM

ATI PCI Mach64, 2M VRAM

ViewSonic 20PS Monitor
NCR 53c810 (or somesuch) SCSI

I have two problems. One is this "shadowy image" mentioned above.
It is not really bad for me, they are very shadowy; it's more
annoying.

The other has to do with the "menus" problem referred to by another
poster as "mouse droppings". It seems to me that the shadowy
image must be some very slight error with clocks or something,
but I could be wrong. However the mouse droppings seem to
fit the following pattern for me:

* problem is precipitated by switching between X window and
text window (using cntrl-alt-F1 to go to text mode and
then cntrl-alt-F5 to go back to X)

* problem is that area immediately under the cursor does
not get properly updated or redrawn if it needs to change.
Examples:
* window iconification: entire area under the window which
"disappears" gets redrawn, except immediately under
cursor (one sees a "chunk" of the window still on the
screen)
* pop-up menus: when menus pop up and then disappear
(by letting go of the mouse button), if the cursor
is positioned over a portion of the menu, that portion
gets left on the screen. Note however that if you
push down the mouse button, the menu comes up, and
then you move the cursor away from the menu before
releasing the mouse button (so that the cursor is
over the plain background or another window), no
menu droppings are left.

Thus it looks very much like something specific to
screen repaint or refresh underneath the cursor, which
does not get properly reset when one swaps out of the
X mode and back into it. Maybe if you send this info
to the Mach64 developers, it will help them.
