Fedora 12
12 was released a few days ago and despite my usual "let the other gut find the problems" approach I upgraded a recent Fedora 11 install. The 11 install was less that two weeks ago on a new machine. 1) It took forever. The install and upgrade times seem to be in direct proportion to the release number.... more »

Recent Fedora packages, including SRPM's, inaccessible from RHEL 5
I've been doing some backporting and testing for RHEL 5 of various components, and with the recent changes in RPM, Fedora's SRPM's are no longer installable under RHEL 5. I can, of course, manually run "rpm2cpio" to extract their contents, but this is going to be a problem for testing and backporting. It's compounded with... more »

The... more »

GDM freezes after Ubuntu upgrade
I've been running Ubuntu dual-booted on an Asus laptop for a couple of years, with no problems for the first year or so. Then about 12 months ago I started getting intermittent screen freezes, after variable lengths of session time (but many sessions were OK, and I was busy, so I lived with the occasional annoyance). But after upgrading to Ubuntu... more »

Linux KVM software?
That's KVM "Keyboard/Video/Mouse" as in the electronic box you used to get, with which you could connect up one set of {K V M} to several PCs. More recently, there's software been developed, by which you can control a remote computer similarly, with the necessary signals going over Ethernet. trouble is, all the one's I've seen are restricted to... more »
