NFS problem:
After selecting NFS install and setting the IP and NFS server
parameters, the install procedure halts due to an error.
the following is from Console 3:
* mounting foobar:/u1/redhat on /tmp/rhimage as type nfs
* creating directory /tmp rc=-1
* creating directory /tmp/rhimage rc=0
* calling nfsmount (foobar:/u1/redhat, /tmp/rhimage, &morejunk, &junk,
&mount_opt)
* calling mount (foobar:/u1/redhat, /tmp/rhimage, nfs, -1058209791,
0x80840d4)
* writing network information to /tmp/ifcfg-eth0
* writing network information to /tmp/network
* network is configured, writing complete information
* error in exec of second stage loader :-(
* error:No such file or directory
it appears that something is wrong with the install image. any clues?

I am having the exact same problem. Only I have slightly different hardware.
P90, 48megs RAM, 500MB EIDE, 3c590 combo ethernet card.. My error is EXACTLY
that. If you find anything please let me know. I'll do the same :)

I found that out the hard way, but thanx anyway. Now I'm having different
problems. I get past all the NFS setup, and it asks if I want to do a new
install or upgrade, I hit new install. It asks if I have any SCSI devices, I
say no. And BAM, it locks up hard as a rock! I'm thinking something is
conficting with my EIDE controller, maybe my sound card. But I don't know why
it would start now. I've installed OS/2 Warp a few times since I got this new
sound card this summer. If you have any ideas about this, let me know :)
Thanx, later.

: I've been running into problems as well, but I got further than this,
: and I'll tell you how. Bear in mind, however, that I'm using an FTP
: install, so I don't know exactly how the NFS install works.
: The first file install looks for on the remote site is hdlist. For
: some reason, it looks for a partial path to this file. It is actually
: looking for /RedHat/base/hdlist. If you are designating the path as
: the redhat site lists it in it's mirror list, then you are leading
: install two directories short of that. For example, if you are
: installing from sunsite.unc.edu, you should enter as the install path:
: /pub/Linux/distributions/redhat/redhat-4.0/i386
: so that install will find the file
: /pub/Linux/distributions/redhat/redhat-4.0/i386/RedHat/base/hdlist
: or adjust acordingly for your favorite mirror site.

My problems are many and daunting;
I have downloaded the RPMS from redhat and placed them in /usr/RedHat/RPMS
and the base in /usr/RedHat/base.. I managed to get a good set of disks
after some trial and error (AOL disks are usually poor quality and have
errors when you run dd on them, GNN and Compuserve turned out to be much
higher quality), and ran them.
THE FIRST error I ran into was getting the installation process past
"Find installation files" (I skipped it, /usr was already mounted on
/mnt/usr even though /dev/hda1 is / and /dev/hda3 is /usr *shrug*) and
then past "Choose installation files" (I symbollically linked
../../mnt/usr/RedHat to ./RedHat in /tmp/rhinst(whatever) on the installer
filesystem).
NOW, I cant run the install program at all, as soon as the program attempts
to convert the RPMS (the first step in Choosing which files to upgrade),
the installation process chokes and the system reboots. I discovered that
rpmconvert was dumping core when run. My next step is to create a "dummy"
rpmconvert that is a shell script that does nothing.. failing that, I
need suggestions (other than "get the cd").
My system profile is RHL 2.1 w/ kernel 2.0.0, a (yuck) Packard Bell 815CD
with a buggy ATAPI (Matshita?) CDROM and 1.2 gig ide0.
There are bugs'o'plenty in my current installation of RedHat and I have
a mind to take fdisk to the sucker and start from scratch with RHL 2.1,
or better yet the 4.0 RHL.. If anyone has any idea whatsoever how to
fixer the broxered upgrade routine, email me or publically respond.
