strange behavior from vpn client

Right now, I'm just looking for feedback from someone
that might be able to provide me with some insight
into a slight problem: When I connect to a vpn via
my vpn client, my interface gets shut down and starts
back up with the ip of the vpn gateway. Why would
this happen? In the past, on Vista, I never had this
problem. My ip would remain as the one assigned
to me by my ISP. This is all quite puzzling.

I've never had that problem. What VPN client software are you using?
